Bahamas Anti-Doping Commission 2nd Annual Art and Essay Contest

10/3/2015 12:27:31 PM

CONTEST OBJECTIVE

The World Anti-Doping Agency’s Revised Anti-Doping Code that became effective in January 2015 provides the Rules and Guidelines for BADC and other National Anti-Doping Agencies “to protect the athlete’s fundamental right to participate in doping-free sport and thus promote health, fairness and equity for all athletes nationwide.” Rules and Guidelines are useless if not applied where applicable therefore, young people are invited to be creative through Art and Essay to interpret the theme “Putting Quality into Practice.”

Students who enter the contest must be a citizen of The Commonwealth of the Bahamas.

CATEGORIES

Elementary:       5-10 years, born on or after September 1, 2010 or on or before August 31, 2004.

Junior:               11-13 years, born on or after September 1, 2004 or on or before August 31, 2001.

Senior:               14-18 years, born on or after September 1, 2001 or on or before August 31, 1996.

The deadline for submission of all entries will be on Friday December 11th  2015.

Each entry must be accompanied by two (2) completed entry forms.

Prizes

The winners in each category will receive special trophies. Consolation prizes will be awarded for outstanding entries as recommended by the Judges.

Special prizes will be presented to Schools and Teachers that provide the greatest number of entries.

Art Contest Guidelines

Standard-size paper is appropriate, either 8 ½” X 11 or 9” X 12”. Entries submitted on paper larger or smaller than the specified sizes will be eliminated. This allows each artist an equal advantage when interpreting his or her theme. Matted entries are acceptable, but matting is not required. All images must be two-dimensional, original and not appropriated from any resource unless dramatically altered.

Art entries become the property of the BADC.

Entries from non-winning students will be returned upon request after the Awards Ceremony. Non-winning students relinquish all claims to submitted pieces within four (4) weeks after the Awards Ceremony takes place.

Essay Guidelines

Number of words for age categories:

Elementary:  100 – 300 words; Junior: 500 – 700 words; Senior: 800 – 1000 words.

An essay must be written on the topic “Putting Quality into Practice” and may be one of the four types, e.g. Persuasive Essay, Informative Essay, Narrative Story or True Story.

Essays must be original, unpublished, and written by one young person. The theme should be developed from a positive constructive perspective. Students may want to consider a personal emphasis to the essay, which would be very helpful.

Essays should be typed and double spaced (“Arial” or “Times New Roman” styles and font sizes no larger than 12 or 14 or recommended).

The essay submission should have a total word count included.

A cover sheet must accompany the essay and include the following: the title of the essay, the student’s name, home mailing address, home and/or cell telephone number, name and address of the student’s schools, and the date the essay was created.

No submitted essays will be returned to the students

No essay submitted to this contest may be submitted to another organization by the entrant for another contest purpose.

LOCATION FOR SUBMISSION OF ENTRIES: Students should submit their entries to the Bahamas Anti-Doping Commission’s Office at the Betty Kelly-Kenning National Aquatic Center in the Queen Elizabeth Sports Center, New Providence or the office of the Ministry of Education’s District Superintendents in the Family Islands.
